A couple of weeks ago my team and I catered a funeral memorial event at Torrance Cultural Arts Center located in Torrance, CA. I feel very honored when clients hire us to cater the memorials of their loved ones. I understand this is not an easy time for them and planning an event in such a short period of time is neither easy nor pleasant. Our goal is to remove the stress of the planning and ensure our guests and host can focus on celebrating the life of their loved one.
This particular client wanted a joyful celebration full of color and life so we focused on creating a Spring assortment of stationary savory and sweet bites. This included a variety of crostinis, tea sandwiiches, and mini desserts.

Asparagus Puff Pastry Bundles with Creamy Tapenade & Goat Cheese Filling
Assorted Petite Tea Sandwiches:
Egg Salad with Watercress
English Cucumber & Boursin
Ham & Swiss with Mustard Spread
Spring Crostini Bar
Grilled Flank Steak Crostini with Chimmichurri, Grilled Vidalia Relish & Sriracha Aioli
Spanish Manchego Crostini Served with Quince Paste
Edamame Hummus Crostini with Tapenade
Roasted Medley Of Beets with Goat Cheese Mousse, Toasted Nuts & Micro Arugula
Heirloom tomato, Basil & Mozzarella
Chef's Choice of Seasonal Assorted Desserts
In addition to the food, we also created the colorful gerbera daisy centerpieces for the high cocktail tables covered in coral linen. As we got ready for this event, it occurred to me just how rare color is used in Western memorial services as the color of choice for such events usually tends to be black. I realized the use of color is very much a personal choice when planning memorial services and for some people it represents life and hope, which I thought was beautiful. It's also worth mentioning that Torrance Cultural Arts Center was a very ideal space - calm, relaxing, and versatile. The venue even has a Japanese garden that presents a beautiful and serene space for events.
