Catering Sales and Event Associate (Off-prem + Venue)

Looking for a role in events where you have real responsibility and a chance for growth? The Associate role is appropriate for individuals with 2+ years of experience and the energy, organization, and an event background to build a portfolio in high end event sales.

Who We Are

Bite Catering Couture serves clients on milestone and important events through a focus on events designed thoughtfully, crafted lovingly, and presented beautifully. Our clients span corporate, wedding, and social events across a wide range of cuisines, service formats, locations, and event types. Our venue, 440 Elm, is a newly renovated 1913 Elmer Grey landmark that holds up to 1100. It comes with a black tie ambiance with 30' coffered ceilings, 110 year old chandeliers, and recognition as one of the top historic ballroom venues in the state.

The Associate Role

This is a sales role working directly with the owners of a catering and events company with both off-premise business and venue. Expect to book several hundred catering events/ yr ($0.5K-25K range per event) and work on company-prioritized projects for a rapidly growing catering operation.

The Associate role is a place for people with some event and fine dining experience to rapidly gain experience in the thoughtful design of catered events, the intentional steps that allow you to build key relationships, and the depth of responsibility of an expert sales model. You will already have a background in fine dining and a love of events which may come from previous full service catering, fine dining restaurant, social, or hospitality experiences.

You will carry a quota for selling delivery level events and assist our owner on projects and more complex events. This role is designed intentionally for someone who brings high levels of energy, curiosity, and early markers of exceptional talent for putting together catered events and building great relationships with clients and industry partners.

This is a sales role working directly with the owners of a catering company with both off-premise business and venues. Expect to book several hundred catering events/yr ($0.5K-20K range per event) in this role.

This role is about 75% sales and 25% projects to support the owner with special projects. From an experience perspective, you'll get broad exposure across our business and the opportunity to learn from an ownership team with deep experience across multiple industries. This is not a "busy work" kind of job. Your project work and organization will translate to real impact during a time where the event industry is going through major shifts and our company is pivoting to ensure a bright future for the company and our team.

This role has a few areas of focus:

  • Process inbound catering orders starting with smaller/simpler events including communications, invoicing, bookings and follow-ups.
  • Build accounts focused on repeat business with promising companies, venues, and planners. Execute "Land and expand" account model focused on creating value and internal champions.
  • Execute sales and event-related projects with our owners.

Who Should Apply?

A highly organized person who can turn ideas into action - you have a warm, personable and empathetic attitude with customers while also making sure that projects get prioritized and shipped. You'll be adaptable to changing project needs in what can be a dynamic environment and you'll enjoy problem solving and creating clarity. You're a quick-thinking, accurate, hands-on, stress-tolerant problem-solver with extreme attention to detail.

You'll want a robust job (approx. 45-50 hours/wk) working directly with the business' owner.

Success in the role generally looks like:

  • Energy and mental flexibility to take a project from experiment to early success with learnings along the way
  • Strong organizational skills with consistent pattern of shipping high quality work
  • Relentless prioritization of portfolio of leads/accounts with the ability to mix important long-term account work with more urgent near-term event work and make both happen at the right level
  • An ability to listen intently and take great notes
  • A strong communicator - including keeping the owner apprised of daily work status, deliverables, etc
  • A detective's sense in conducting online research against sales accounts, vendors/sourcing, government licenses/permits, etc
  • Experience breaking down problems and turning them into a range of different potential solutions that might each optimize for different priorities
  • Working up to a $850K annual sales quota and building the accounts to support a transition to the next role

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that leads are responded to in an enthusiastic and timely manner with appropriate assignment or follow-up
  • Research incoming leads for account potential & work accordingly
  • Qualify and "triage" leads to ensure leads get the appropriate SLAs (service levels/followup)
  • Successfully book simpler orders and progress to more complex events
  • Build book of accounts to generate a pipeline of reliable repeat/refer business
  • Draft and plan proprietary events in our venue and with venue and industry partners
  • Create event-related operational documents and schedule related team members
  • Leverage our CRM for tracking and insights
  • Incorporate AI tools and techniques into sales and event workflows to deliver the best ideas and execution to our clients
  • Project work to include assisting the owner with ongoing projects for the business
  • The role will report to the owner.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • 4-Year College Degree or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years relevant work experience (including relevant initiatives for clubs/organizations/student govt)
  • Track record of high performance (i.e., Olympic athlete, raised $100K for a charity, finalist in a national competition, top 10% LSAT/MCAT, summa cum laude)

Compensation

Total comp: $65,000-$85,000 (Base of $46-50K + Commission + Performance Bonus + Health Stipend)

Requirements

  • Proficiency with Excel and web-based business tools (we use Salesforce)
  • Exposure to fine dining, 5-star hospitality environments, or high end catered events
  • Reliable transportation, valid license, and clean driving record
  • Able to lift 50 lbs
  • Fluent in English
  • Live within reasonable driving distance to cover work sites between Palms/Culver City Area and Long Beach
  • Able to taste and describe ALL foods
