Natural History Museum - Event Space Overview

Opened in 1913, the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County is located in Downtown Los Angeles within Exposition Park. This museum is the largest natural and historical museum in the western United States in addition to operating as a research and educational institution. It’s architectural style is described as Beaux Arts, Neoclassical, Romanesque, and Spanish Lateresque. The interior of the property has been widely used for filming, including for TV shows such as “Bones,” “Scandal,” and “How I Met Your Mother.”

As one of L.A.'s oldest museums, NHM has over 100 years of experience in making a moment last forever, all the while inspiring a sense of wonder, discovery, and responsibility for our natural and cultural worlds. With two distinct museum venues to choose from - the Natural History Museum in Exposition Park or the Museum at La Brea Tar Pits on Miracle Mile - these venues are sure to provide beautiful and unique settings for your special event.

Whether you’re looking to dance among the Dueling Dinosaurs, dine on the Western Plains or the African Savanna, sip a cocktail in the luscious gardens, or enjoy memorable moments with mammoths and mastodons, events here allow you to step into the past for an evening of unforgettable immersion.

Both locations offer a vast array of one-of-a-kind event spaces to accommodate your needs in comfort and style. From weddings and elopements to mitzvahs, quinceaneras, corporate and nonprofit dinners and galas, screenings, holiday parties, and more, these majestic venues offer the perfect spaces for a variety of occasions.

The Natural History Museums of Los Angeles County are happy to welcome outside vendors to serve your event. Tables and chairs are provided by the venue to accommodate up to 200 to 250 guests for your event (Natural History Museum location only). Professional event staff are on-hand to provide setup and cleanup and to assist in facilitating a flawless experience. Complimentary parking is provided for you and your guests for the duration of your event at both locations.

Host your very own night at the museum for a naturally wonderful experience you won’t soon forget!

What we Love about Natural History Museum
The NHM offers some great event spaces unique amongst the Los Angeles market. For those who love science or natural history, the opportunity to experience the museum with a private group is an amazing opportunity! As a caterer we love the proximity of themed indoor and outdoor spaces, which can create a storyboard that takes guests through an interesting journey.
